Scheduled on the first Saturday of August, in commemoration of the full Emancipation of slaves in Canada in 1838, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival is a spectacular display of costume, sound, and colour that moves its way through the city of Toronto. Recognizing our past provides an opportunity to examine what freedom and liberation mean today.
